Mechanisms of Genetic Similarity
1.Common Ancestry: The phenomenon of genetic similarity stems from the fact that all organisms on Earth share a common ancestor. Over millions of years, evolutionary processes, such as genetic mutations, genetic recombination, and natural selection, have shaped the genetic diversity we see today. Organisms with a recent common ancestor tend to exhibit higher genetic similarity compared to those with a more distant ancestor.
2.Inheritance and Heredity: Genetic material is inherited from parent to offspring, leading to similarities between generations. Through sexual reproduction, genetic information from two parents combines, resulting in a unique blend of their genetic traits in the offspring. This process contributes to genetic diversity while retaining underlying similarities.
3.Genetic Mutations: Despite the remarkable similarity between species, genetic mutations occur spontaneously, leading to variations in DNA sequences. These mutations, caused by errors during DNA replication or environmental factors, introduce diversity within a species or between different species. Nevertheless, even with these variations, the overall genetic similarity remains evident.
